Tuesday night I attended Ignite Phoenix #6 in Mesa, AZ. If you have never heard of it…here’s the definition as posted on the Ignite Phoenix site.
Ignite is an information exchange for fostering and inspiring Phoenix’s creative community. In one evening, you hear 18 passionate speakers from our creative, technical, and business communities talking about their current projects or favorite ideas for just five minutes. Presentations will educate and inspire you, and maybe make you laugh in the process. (http://www.ignitephoenix.com/about)
What an amazing night! 17 people getting on stage and talking to a friendly audience of 525+ about something they’re truly passionate about. The topics were all across the board but the commonality was their passion.
I love music photography and I am a music lover which 100% explains my passion for music photography. My passion fuels my desire to create photographs of musicians exhibiting their passion. It comes full circle.
I’m not in concert photography for the money, although compensation when it happens is a plus. Believe me more often than not compensation doesn’t happen.
So, why do it? I do it for the opportunity to connect with the music (not the musician) on a higher level. I produce images that make people feel like they are there with me. If people viewing the photos were at the show – I try to recreate the feeling they had at that moment. (One of my fav photos from RCPM NYE that puts you at the show)
Passion begets passion. Share your passion with someone and you’ll both be better for it. So along those lines – I have submitted to present at Ignite Phoenix #7 : “The Art of Rock and Roll” – a presentation about my passion for music photography. I do not know if I will be selected but just the act of submitting demonstrates my passion for music photography.
What are you passionate about? Share a comment and share some thoughts!
5/17/10 SIDENOTE: My submission to IgnitePHX was not selected as one of the lucky ones to present. Believe me, just because a group of people aren’t passionate about my passion doesn’t mean I’m less passionate about it. The Art of Rock & Roll is still beating…

Awesome! Sounds like a great topic to present on. I predict that you’ll make the cut for Ignite Phoenix #7!
Yeah Taylor!
Sounds like a very positive event and an amazing photo to boot.
I have a strong passion for music and photography, but have never been able to combine the two. I think that is why I enjoy your work so much.
My passion comes from all angles. I try to be passionate about everything. Hopefully that comes through in my photos. The more I see your work the more I think that we are on the same page. And that is what photography is all about. PASSION!

Thanks Craig. You are one of the photographers that have inspired me. I look at your work and I feel the passion that you have for the craft.
I am humbled by your comments.
Thanks Taylor!
We are hoping to attend Lightning in a Bottle this year in Irvine, CA. http://lightninginabottle.org/
The bands and attendees are extremely theatrical. Kind of like a mini Burning man. Check it out and let me know what you think. You will certainly get some amazing photos.

If you want it bad enough and you work hard enough, there is always an audience for passionate people.
Well said Tyler! That is practically my mantra.
